If the weather in Ibiza is a bit bad, a wine tasting is a perfect way to kill some time. What am I saying? Even when the sun is shining, a wine tasting in Ibiza is a good idea!

The wineries of Ibiza

Ibiza has several wineries: Can Rich (also known for its olive oil), Ibizkus, Bodegas Can Maymo, and Sa Cova. At all four, it is possible to do a wine tasting. It is wise to call in advance to make an appointment for a wine tasting. Especially at Can Rich, because they only provide wine tours by appointment. I visit Sa Cova, Can Rich, and Ibizkus: three very different Ibiza wineries. So there is something for everyone!

Wine tasting at Sa Cova

Sa Cova is located in San Mateu. As soon as you enter San Mateu, signs direct you to the vineyard. Even without an appointment, a short tour followed by a tasting is possible. For four glasses of wine with tapas, you pay 18 euros.

I find the explanations during the tour interesting, but we are pretty much left alone during the tasting. The host pours the wine, mentions the name of the grape, and disappears. I would like some more explanation about the wines, so I bombard the host with questions. Questions that he answered nicely, by the way. So with a bit of input of your own, the wine tasting of Sa Cova is a fun pastime.

Tip! I have collected many more Ibiza tips for you.

Wine tasting at Ibizkus

In August 2018, Ibizkus opened a new tasting room with a wine shop in Ibiza. This tasting room is very modern and freshly decorated. The blue color of the logo is reflected in various places in the interior. Very nice. The prices of wine tastings start at €19. You also get a tour of the cellars and the production facilities (provided that grapes are not just unloaded) and an explanation about the wines.

The wine tasting at Ibizkus takes about an hour and is just a bit more professional than the other winery. Our host Andre knows a lot about the wines and the winery itself. In 2007 this Ibiza winery started as Totem Wines, and later the winery continued under the name Ibizkus.

Ibizkus has no fewer than 40 pieces of land in Ibiza with vineyards on which various grapes are grown. The wine is still stamped here by the feet. How cool is that?! The Ibizkus White and Rose are real sloppy wines: perfect for taking to the beach for a picnic. My favorite is the Ibizkus Red, nice and full and fruity. We even get an extra glass of this red wine because we like it so much. Thank you, Andre!

Wine tasting at Can Rich

Wine tours are only available by appointment at Can Rich. But often, you can just drop by for a tasting. Just check the options in advance so you won’t be disappointed. I try the tasting as there aren’t enough people to participate in a tour on the dates I’m available. So my friend and I try four wines and a small glass of hierbas. The wines are served one by one but with a little too much time in between and little explanation. But the surroundings are beautiful, and it only costs 15 euros. The full tour is 28 euros, by the way.

Can Rich was established in 1997 and has over 20 hectares of vineyard and another 3.000 olive trees. I love the olive oil, by the way. Every time I come to Ibiza I take a bottle home.

Not wine in Ibiza but Hierbas

Okay, it’s not wine, but it’s a typical drink from Ibiza. Hierbas: a kind of herbal liqueur. In restaurants, you often get a little glass of it after your dinner. And you can learn to make it yourself. This is still on my to-do list for my next Ibiza trip! View the details here.

  • Accommodation. All-time favorite: Booking.com. Rather stay in a hostel? Try HostelWorld.

  • Flights. Be sure to check out Transavia and Vueling, but do compare all your options! Be sure to check your options at Momondo, Skyscanner, and Kiwi.
  • Guidebooks. Although I love the practical guidebooks from Lonely Planet, for my Ibiza holiday I choose inspirational books. Bol.com has many on offer. But be sure to check out Amazon too.
  • Money. Your debit and credit cards may not get accepted everywhere. You could opt for a Revolut card as an additional card when you travel.
  • Package deals. Rather go on a catered trip? The Dutchies among us can try ANWB vakanties or Tui, but also check out Vakantie Discounter, D-reizen, Sunweb and Corendon.
  • SIM card. Beware of unexpectedly high calling and internet costs. Buy a local SIM card when you arrive, or arrange one online via Airalo.
  • Travel gear. Buy your gear at Bever or Decathlon, or simply at Bol.com.
  • Yoga retreat. Or, treat yourself to a lovely yoga retreat in Ibiza.
